My Ritual At the Gym...
The Fitness and Aquatics Center located just up the road from Loyola University Maryland's campus is the fitness gym where students have access to workout. I try to go to the gym as frequently as possible when I am here. Although I do live off campus with a gym of my own here, it is not even as half as nice as Loyolas FAC.
More often than not I have the same routine at the gym each time I go. When I first get to the gym I run. I try to run at least three miles each time, give or take. Averaged out 10 times around the track is one mile, but I am not sure how accurate that is because my Apple Watch tries to tell me otherwise. While running I need to be listening to music or else I will not be able to finish my run. There was this one time that I got all the way to the gym, shortly realized I did not have my AirPods, so I walked myself back out and drove to get them at my apartment. I did this because I know myself and I know for sure I would not have been able to complete my full workout if I had not gone back. After my run, I go on the exercise bike. When on the bike I try to do at least five or six miles in distance. Five miles averages out, for me, to around 100 calories. The exercise bike is an aerobic workout and is an excellent way to burn the calories fast alongside burning some body fat. While doing this it also enhances my heart, lungs and muscles. Biking is actually one of my favorite ways to exercise, so I am glad to use the bike while at the gym. When I am at home I go on bike rides all the time, but unfortunately I do not have a bike down here with me at school.
Now, it is time for my workouts regarding my abs and glutes. I start off with my glutes which work out my gluteus Maximus, gluteus medius and the gluteus minimus. With that I start with squats. Squats work when your torso is straight and your legs and hips are engaged with moving up and down. I then move onto fire hydrants where I use a resistance band. Then comes the glute bridges, which I use a weight on my pelvis and lift my hips up and then back down. I also do jump-squats with a dumbbell weight to add a little intensity. There are many other workouts I use, but for today those were my workouts where I repeat three sets with 15 reps each set.
Regarding my abs I use a weight for mostly everything. I start with bicycle crunches and then do crunches on a medicine ball. Both of these exercises help with tightening and strengthening the muscles in the abdominals. The next exercise I complete is sitting twists with a 12 pound weight. After this I do 20 leg raises and then hold for 15 seconds- this one really makes you feel the burn. After doing many more ab workouts I plank for three minutes. While planking it really makes me work up a sweat. It feels awesome after.
The key to a successful and perfect workout is staying hydrated. I bring my yeti and refill it probably three to four times while being present at the gym. Water never tastes better than after finishing a workout, it also helps you perform at your best level. Being that we are still in the pandemic, there are many restrictions at the gym that one needs to follow and maintain. There needs to be a significant amount of cleaning supplies and towels to wipe down each surface or item you use. When I get back I like to have a nice healthy snack. Never eat before going to the gym because you will be burning the fat from the foods you ate rather than your body fat. What I made today was avocado toast. I got two pieces of break, smashed up an avocado, spread it on the toast, sprinkled a very light layer of onion powder on top, added feta cheese on top then cut up some almonds and called it a day. I highly recommend trying this- best avocado toast I have made in a while!
Stay active and stay healthy.
