FINAL PROJECT: Wake Up and Lets Go...

Winthrop, MA

What May Occur On a Day in My Summer

When I wake up the first thing I do, if I do not have work, is figure out my day. Whether this may be going to the beach, going into the city, working out or all of the above I like to wake up early and get a move on.

Typically, my younger sister Emma and I will run to Deer Island. Deer Island is a Harbor-walk located at the furthest point in my town. It is technically located in my town, but many view it as the Boston Harbor. When enduring Deer Island it is a five mile pathway all along the ocean. When you go you will see many riding bikes, jogging, running, working out and even fishing. The hours are from sunrise to sunset and let me just tell you about the view...definitely something you want to experience in your lifetime. Emma and I will usually run there and either jog, run or walk around the pathway then run back home. It is a perfect start to my day, especially in the summer with the hot air and ocean breeze.

After a nice morning walk, run or bike ride I will eat a nice breakfast and head on over to the beach. The beach is extremely special to me. I will go there everyday, no matter what. Whether it be for a picture, to tan, to swim, to hang out- no matter the occasion, I will be there. I adore it. There is something about the beach that makes me feel safe and warm on the inside. It could be because I have grown up living on a beach or maybe because the sound of the waves crashing and the wind flowing equals serenity to me.

More often than not after a long day at the beach my friends and I will take the paddle boards and kayaks and head over to the "Lagoon." You may be wondering what that may be, well it is the spot behind my best friend's house with a little body of ocean water that we can swim and hang out in. Being that this is their property it is considered "private property" so we get it all to ourselves. It is an extreme blast and we have so much fun when doing so.

My parents and my friends' parents have been very close since we were babies. With that, I have been going to the "Lagoon" for as long as I can remember. When I was younger there was a dock installed in the middle of the Lagoon, by my friends father, where we would jump off and play games swimming around. We had this one game called "mud fight." Mud fight was when we would pick up the sand at the bottom of the Lagoon and throw it at each other. As time went on and we grew older, we stopped because we realized how childish and disgusting that was for us to be doing to one another.

There was this one summer afternoon that I remember clear as day at the Lagoon...we saw a sand shark. How scary! Although I was a little girl and I should have been scared, I was intrigued. It was after "Family Day At The Beach" when all of our close family-friends and us went back to the Lagoon. My younger sister's face was priceless, she would not swim in the Lagoon until the next summer. Me on the other hand, wanted to know more about it. I was with all my boys- my friends brothers or the boys my age who were my family-friends. We thought it was so cool and made us wonder what other animals were under there that we did not know about prior.

Now that we are older, we usually just chill out and relax there instead of causing chaos and noise. I wish that I could have summer all year round, but since I cannot have it like that, three months will do.

After a nice, relaxing, fun beach day I will go home, eat and get ready for whatever is planned for the nighttime. My favorite after the beach snack is Sweetgreen. Sweetgreen is so yummy to me and if I could live off of it for the rest of my life I for sure would! My typical order is a "build your own"where I put romaine lettuce, carrots, apples, cucumbers, roasted sweet potatoes, roasted almonds, hard-boiled egg, roasted chicken, avocado, feta cheese and to top it off I add in balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Boy oh boy is this salad to die for. It fills me right up and is a nice healthy option for after the beach.

The closest Sweetgreen to my house is in the Seaport of Boston, but I usually travel up to Lynnfield, MA to Market Street for my salad. Market Street is one of my favorite places to go and is only about a 20-25 minute ride. There are many amazing stores and restaurants at this outdoor plaza that I love. They have stores ranging from LuluLemon to Lucky Brand or even an Apple store. I love it there. They also have restaurants like Whalburgers, The Yard House and even Panera if you are not looking to be there a while. Market Street is like target...you can just text a friend and say "You want come with me?" and you automatically know the response will be a yes.

Check it out

Now, my nighttime in the summer is awesome. Sometimes I will work at a local restaurant in the North End called Bricco. When I do so, my coworkers and I sometimes stay in Boston and go out. When I am not working I am with my friends. Sometimes we have a bonfire on the beach, sometimes we hangout in someones yard, sometimes we go out to dinner- no matter what it is, it is a blast. I am always laughing with my friends and there are no better times in life than when you are happy, smiling and laughing all of the time.

If I can give any words of advice it would be to cherish the moments you are making, take lots of pictures and just take in what is going on around you. You never know when something may change.
