A Snow Day in the Middle of a Pandemic? I'll Take It...
Baltimore, MD
2021 Spring Semester
Loyola University Maryland gives a snow day!
Ahhhh a snow day... who doesn't love waking up to a nice email from the University elaborating to us that we have a snow day? Especially as classes are taken more-so remotely. I was ecstatic.
As a little girl I would hope and pray that even if we had a dusting of snow, the Superintendent would call it! More often than not, that wouldn't happen. I come from an area where it could snow multiple feet and we would still have to trek it in the freezing cold weather just to make it in time before the late bell. The torture of stepping outside and feeling the brick air, seeing the families in my neighborhood snow blowing, cleaning off their cars and drinking a nice hot coffee was horrible. The most we would get was a delayed opening. That was okay, my friends and I were lucky enough to even get that.
Well time passes by and now I am in college. I am in an area now that views snow the complete opposite than where I was born and raised. The Baltimore community definitely views snow as something torturous, which I mean I think it is too. Who actually enjoys the cold? I know I don't!
Thursday February 18 I woke up to a nice email and text from Loyola telling us that classes were cancelled for the day, even remote classes! I was in shock but also had no problem turning back around and catching up on a little more sleep. After I decided I was finally ready to get out of my luxurious comfy bed, I decided why not treat myself and get a nice bacon egg and cheese from 'Kitsch' that is located underneath the Carlyle Apartment Homes, where I reside. Kitsch is for sure a hidden gem. Something about that first bite of the warm, tasty and scrumptious breakfast sandwich makes my mouth crave more and more.
Check their website out and try this delicious breakfast sandwich... oh and don't forget to order a latte- they're also to die for!
My grandmother makes this dish all the time so I gave her a call and she shortly sent me her recipe. Honestly, no one can compare to how my grandmother makes it, but let me tell you- the way ours came out was absolutely amazing. Smelling the cheesy air and hearing the crunch of the breadcrumbs urged me to take a bite before it was cooled down, I couldn't help myself. This was beyond delicious and I think if I could, I would eat it every night. Granted if I did this I may gain 50 pounds, but hey at least I will be eating good...
